Our Airbnb experience Portugal

7/20/2015

So like I mentioned in a previous post, we went on holiday to Portugal this year. It was our first Airbnb experience and we were quite curious about what it would be like. In fact, we couldn’t be more happy. We all loved it! Our host was fantastic. She very kindly met us at the train station and drove us to the apartment. Not only that, she also gave us a tour of the town (Alvor) and told us where to find a quiet part of the beach, which by the way was lovely.

The location of the apartment was what first attracted me to this Airbnb listing. It was a 5 minute walk from the beach, had a sea view and was only a 2 minute walk from the town. Of course being an interior design blogger the decor of the apartment played a big role too. In fact I think that’s what made me decide on this listing.

The apartment itself was so pretty. It was designed by the hosts daughter who’s an architect at Urba. The open plan apartment was beautifully designed and decorated. It had details from both nordic and Portugese design. The tiled floor throughout made the apartment nice and cool, which we were thankful for. The yellow shaded tiles did not happen by a mistake. I was told they were sourced to fit the colour coding of the outdoor panoramic view and I have to say it worked really well.

Waking up to this view every morning was of course great. I’m a huge fan of bi-folding doors. It was brilliant to be able to open them all up and soak in the sea view.

I become very domesticated on holiday and kind of like to potter in the kitchen. I think it’s simply because I’ve got more time. As well as going out to some very nice restaurants, we prepared nice meals with fresh fish (caught by my husband) and vegetables from the local market. When the market is only a 2 minute walk away it’s a bonus.

We had brilliant weather whilst in Portugal, but sometimes it was too hot. It was great to come back to a cool apartment after a morning at the beach. Magnus (8) had the time building sand castles every day and loved having a freezer full of ice cream!

airbnb experience

I can honestly say that our Airbnb experience was 100% positive. We had a great time and felt totally at home in our “home from home”. I would highly recommend Airbnb and have heard similar reviews from friends and fellow bloggers. I’ve got my eye on a couple of apartments in Copenhagen that I really want to visit.

Here are some of the photos from my Instagram account, but there are other photos from Portugal if you want to have a look.

  1. I love this, in most part for the absolutely stunning apartment you selected (nice work Hege!) but also because you said that you become more domesticated on holiday. I’m exactly the same-which is why we always choose self-catering so that we can shop the local markets and cook our own meals whenever we like. It’s all part of really experiencing where you’re staying. Can’t wait to try out Airbnb! xx
