Hi, my name is Anette Hallbäck and I currently live in Gothenburg together with my husband and youngest daughter. I also have two older children who have moved away from home. We live in a house that we’ve spent a lot of time renovating. It’s surrounded by a large garden and situated close by the beautiful and barren archipelago of the Swedish west coast.

Throughout my life I’ve been very creative and passionate about the visual craftsmanship of interior designs and architecture. Today I spend a lot of time in my studio where I create my art. When time allows, I also carry out freelance interior design projects.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?

I started my career in the retail fashion industry, where I worked as a manager, buyer and visual merchandiser. After some years I wanted to develop my interests further and studied to become an interior designer and since I worked as a stylist/interior designer.

Being creative have always been an important part of my life and as long as I can remember I’ve always loved to draw and create things with my hands. For the last few years I’ve had the opportunity to spend the majority of my time on creating and making my art.

WHAT DOES YOUR WORK AIM TO SAY?

I want my art to have a central role in my customers’ home and interior, it should create harmony and an austere feeling. I think the final touch for creating a beautiful home is adding light and art. I feel that my customer is longing for something handmade and unique.

WHAT WORK DO YOU MOST ENJOYING DOING?

An inspiring day is when I can explore and experimenting with new patterns and colours. I can put all my time on the creation of new art. I also always enjoy delivering a unique artwork to a customer and see a perfect fit in that customers’ home.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ART?

My artworks are defined by sculptures and three-dimensional patterns that makes each artwork unique and individual. The patterns are given simplistic and descriptive names in line with my sources of inspiration, e.g. Line, Dune, Row, and Structure. All my artworks are made on fine high-quality linen and the material that I use is a plaster mix usually in an off-white/white colour. Recently, I’ve also started to work with other colours to. I’ve a collaboration with a frame workshop if the customers like the paintings framed. However, the artworks are also beautiful without a frame.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

I find my inspiration in many things and situations but especially from the Scandinavian nature and sea. There I see my patterns form. Since I’ve worked with fashion before, I also find my inspiration there, in the nuances and colours that I want to work with.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM PROJECT?

A dream project would be to have an exhibition at a large fine gallery where I can show my art and be able to meet my customers. I have a collaboration with a gallery in Copenhagen but am currently looking to engage with a few more dealers that want to sell my art.

WHAT DOES A NORMAL STUDIO DAY LOOK LIKE?

When I spend time in my studio my working days usually start around 9 AM. I spend most of the day in my studio with either testing new techniques and/or making new versions of my art pieces. I try to work with the creation of my art in the mornings and early afternoons, that´s when the natural daylight is the brightest. In the late afternoons, I usually switch focus to buying my materials and plan for future projects.
