I’ve loved the Danish Iconic Wishbone Chair for as long as I can remember. To celebrate Hans J. Wegner and the love for this chair, Carl Hanson & Søn has created a limited Birthday Edition. In collaboration with designer Isle Crawford, they have chosen a beautiful glossy navy blue finish to celebrate this special 70th Birthday. The reason why the chair is being launched today is because Hans J. Wegner was born on the 2nd April 1914.
CH24 Wishbone Chair
The very first model Hans J. Wegner designed exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1949. The CH24 or the Wishbone Chair has been in continuous production since its introduction in 1950. It’s a stunning piece that looks great in modern interiors, as well as more traditional homes. Isn’t it incredible to think it was designed 70 years ago?
Described as a timeless icon of modern Danish design, the Birthday Edition is a perfect addition to the Wishbone family. The chair is so aesthetically pleasing, but not only that it’s great to use too. Not all designer chairs are comfortable, but this one really is! My posture is quite bad and this chair makes me sit up straight, which is a great bonus. The Y-shaped back that Wegner developed is actually what the Wishbone Chair is named after.
The seat is hand-woven by a skilled craftsman and takes about an hour to create, using approximately 120 meters of paper cord. I think it’s the craftsmanship I like the most about this chair. It’s so well made and you can see that from a distance. Did you notice the brass plate under the chair? It’s such a perfect detail and I love that it’s engraved with Hans J. Wegner’s signature and date of birth. It’s makes it extra special. Every chair is also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity..
I mentioned earlier that this is a Limited Birthday Edition. The chair is for sale from the 2th April to the 30th April 2020 only. This is a true collectors item for design lovers.
I’ve enjoyed styling the chair in my home and feel like it fits in really well in my minimal dining room, but it also works well by the window in my living room. It’s a statement chair and the glossy blue finish makes it stand out.
