Creating a minimalist garden with HAY Palissade furniture

6/04/2021

[Advertisement] This post is in collaboration with The Finnish Design Shop who supplied the HAY Palissade garden furniture in exchange for this post.

If you’re looking to add a Nordic design furniture to you garden, you will love this. I’m a big  fan of the Bouroullec Brothers. Hailing from Brittany, Ronan and Erwan have a way with  design that’s eye-catchingly graphic yet delicate at the same time. You might be familiar with  their work through HAY who always champion design that feels more bold and daring. And  my favourite of all the HAY back catalogue is the Palissade garden collection.

The collection launched back in 2016 to rave reviews, and you can see why, right?

Despite being a contemporary design it looks very familiar. Its strong, minimal frame with its series of steel tubes and slats is reminiscent of sidewalk cafes in Paris or Rome, perhaps.

And since I’ll be venturing to neither city this year, we’ve been focusing our efforts on beautifying our patio. It needed some work, including repainting after the winter was less than kind to the decking. Our old furniture was beyond saving and I’d been looking for timeless metal garden furniture that I knew would grow old gracefully as our garden evolved.

As our house is mid-century, I wanted garden furniture with modern café appeal but would also look at home in a contemporary style urban garden.

Of course, there was very little choice to make on my part – it could only be the Palissade garden furniture which I chose through The Finnish Design Shop. And although I love the popular deep forest green, I felt a light grey set would age better. The grey tones seem to complement the colours from the garden and bring a super contemporary look to the patio which is exactly what I wanted.

The garden lounge chairs are fairly deep in the seat which allows for some serious relaxation and I’ve styled the ottoman as a small occasional table for drinks, snacks or a stack of magazines for lazy days. Did you notice the HAY Chamber vase from my Easter table post? It’s also available from The Finish Design Shop. You can find it here.

In terms of planting, I’m keeping it minimal with a few potted plants. I found a beautiful little Acer (Japanese Maple tree) at the supermarket which over time will add delicate height. Its variegated leaves break up the black wood on the deck and connect to the bushes and shrubs beyond. Everything’s so lush and green here!

I’m so looking forward to long summer days out here on our patio, even though up here in Scotland they’re still a bit of a way off. So for now, it’s coffee breaks (if the weather holds) and catching moments of sun when it appears. I do think the weather has finally changed for the better this week, so hopefully we can enjoy the patio as much as we did last year.

If you’re looking for minimalist garden furniture that will last for many many years, then HAY Palissade garden furniture is a great choice.

Have you started getting your garden ready for summer yet? What garden furniture do you have your eye on?
