Swedish Apartment apartment with double height living space

Anyone fancy moving to Sodermalm? I can’t get enough of this Swedish home with tall windows and high ceilings. Classic architecture fans, eat your heart out. The clever use of space and the double height living space really appeals to me.

Built in 1883, the building was once home to Sweden’s oldest gymnasium. The interior was destroyed by fire in 2003. Now newly refurbished, this series of studio apartments are inspired by a grand hotel.

Living space

A light filled open plan living room leads into a kitchen dining area. Kitted out in Italian Gaggenau appliances, this looks really high end. The apartment as clean light grey walls and white waxed flooring run throughout. It is styled tonally with white and oak furnishings, adding that Nordic design touch. Warm tan leather seating and brushed brass accessories stops everything from feeling too cold. A thick textured rug defines the room without walls, creating zones and setting it apart from the rest of the space. The apartment feels warm and cosy, despite the expansive proportions of the building.

Minimal Kitchen

By contrast, the minimal kitchen announces itself with bold midnight blue units. A carrara marble splashback and worktop excuse a polished elegance, topped off with polished stainless steel accessories by Georg Jensen. You might spot my favourite Henning Koppel pitcher and Bernadotte thermos, they are such strong Danish classics.

The round dining table with slatted wood base adds texture into a very sleek space. I love how they’ve used amber glass votives to style it. This makes the tan leather dining chairs stand out.

Up on a mezzanine floor waits a simple, minimal bedroom with midnight blue built-in wardrobes. It’s a space you would be able to personalise easily with some nice art and accessories. I absolutely love the little reading corner with the OGK Safari daybed by Skovshoved Moebelfabrik. The chunky white mohair blanket is by a brand called Pihl Stehl. Isn’t it dreamy?
