THE CANVAS CHAIR – NEW DESIGN LAUNCH BY FREDERICIA

Fredericia Furniture has been turning heads again, mine included. A reissued archive classic, The Canvas Chair made its debut at Stockholm Design Week earlier this year. It was, without doubt, an instant favourite of mine and one I had to find out more about.

One of Børge Mogensen’s last designs before his death, The Canvas Chair is a statement against the frivolous decor of the 1960s. Displaying his signature trademark frame of horizontal and vertical lines and a natural canvas seat, it is simplicity personified.

I don’t think I could be more in love with it if I tried. As fresh now as it was on its release in 1970, its honest and earthy appeal is exactly what homes of today are looking for. Also available in black, the tones in the European oak frame and linen canvas are just so soothing. It looks right at home in my living room, don’t you think? And it’s ridiculously comfortable. Not too dissimilar to Mogensen’s iconic Spanish Chair, its distinctive wide armrests make the perfect resting spot for a mug of coffee.

It’s hard to believe that this beautiful piece of design hasn’t seen the light of day until now but it’s also timely. Just when we need a comfortable place to sit and watch the world go by, here it is.

I loved styling the canvas chair in my home and I’ll be very sad to send it back to Copenhagen. I’ve styled other pieces for Fredericia before, if you would like to see the Piloti Stone Table, it’s here or the Trinidad chairs, see more here.
